July 2020 Playlist
Hope is the thread that links all the pieces in this month's playlist; each one is beautifully soothing, but also uplifting. Which without wanting to mention ‘that which should not be named’ (yes, I am a huge Harry Potter fan!) is I think something we all need right now; a bit of soothing and a bit of uplifting.
You will find lots of lovely piano pieces scattered around this list, but also I’ve tried to ensure there is a nice range of instruments. So there is everything from piano to rich strings ensembles, and it also includes a saxophone piece for the first time, curtesy of the fabulous Jess Gillam with her gorgeous duet with Luke Howard called ‘Dappled Light’.
The saxophone will always hold a special place in my heart as one of my oldest and dearest friends is a very accomplish saxophonist (so much so that our school had to hire a special teacher to teach her as she was better than the regular one!). Some of my fondest school memories are from practice sessions, orchestra practice and being backstage before concerts. Generally causing mayhem in the first two instances and helping steady each other’s nerves in the case of the latter.
Hope you enjoy this month’s offering, as always I’d love to know what your favourites are - let me know in the comments below.

p.s. Just in case you are tempted to watch the film that ‘Luminous’ was written for (‘Perfect Sense’), can I suggest that now might not be the best of times to do so! Those of you who have seen it will know what I mean. (It’s about a mysterious illness that spreads and impacts people’s senses….)
I say this because I often choose which films to watch by listening to their soundtracks and scores first. So if like me you thought that the soundtrack to ‘Perfect Sense’ is stunningly beautiful, maybe I should watch the film… maybe wait a bit. It’s a good film, just not a good film to watch in the middle of a global pandemic! (Oops I mentioned it)
