NO MATTER WHAT YESTERDAY WAS LIKE, BIRDS ALWAYS START THE NEW DAY WITH A SONG
— ANON

I don't know about you, but in these strange and worrying times I have found great solace in the most simple and routine of things.

One of my new morning rituals is to lie in bed and listen to the birds singing the sun over the horizon. Every morning without fail their cheerful notes drift through the air and for those moments nothing else matters.

The pieces I have selected for this month's playlist have this sentiment in mind. They are all pieces that I hope will help to make the worries of the world fade away as you listen to them.

I must admit it was hard to single out some pieces to talk about this month because they are all so beautiful, but one that pops out at me as I type is ‘The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus’, from Stuart Mitchell’s ‘Seven Wonders Suite’. The title might sound a bit ominous but don’t let that put you off. It’s a gorgeously moving orchestral piece that I’ve loved since the first time I heard it on ClassicFM, when it made me stop what I was doing so I can find out what it was.

‘Fljotavik’ written by members past and present of Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós and ‘Two on the Breakwater’ by Angus MacRae are two of other pieces from this month’s selection that are regular features of my ‘recently played’ list on Spotify.

Let me know what your favourite pieces are from this month’s playlist in the comments below.
