October 2020 Playlist
If you are a regular listener to our playlists you will know we like to give each one a theme. Honouring that tradition this month's theme is 'Hygge'.
For those of you that don't know what this unusual word means; Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being. It is regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture.
Given that Denmark regularly features at the top of the ‘World’s Happiest Places to Live’ lists we figured they are probably onto something!
With the night's drawing in we thought it was the perfect theme for this month. We hope you can find time to snuggle up somewhere cosy and listen to pieces throughout the month and that they help to bring you a sense of contentment and well-being.
You will notice several pieces played by Angèle Dubeau and her ensemble La Pieta in this month’s list. This is because I’ve been listening to their latest album a lot this past month and I really love the way they play, it’s so expressive. Continuing the French Canadian thread, there are also a couple of pieces by pianist and composer Jean-Michel Blais. If you’re not familiar with his back catalogue can I highly recommend you check it out. His music is amazing!
